My family has had the longstanding tradition of using soybean oil for cooking our authentic Mexican dishes instead of using lard that is why today I want to share with you soybean oil benefits when cooking at home.
When shopping for cooking oil sometimes we do not realize that the so called “vegetable oil” is actually soybean oil which in the United States accounts for approximately 55% of the vegetable oil used by home cooks. That is why it is very important to check the labels and look for soybean oil as the ingredient.
When cooking the least I want to have are added flavors that could compromise the taste of my traditional dishes. That is why it is my preference to use soybean oil. Because it has a neutral flavor that helps me create some of my favorite traditional meals without compromising the taste. Like my latest recipe Beer Battered Cauliflower Tacos, so good as a vegetarian option.
Since I have been living in the States I have prepared many traditional Mexican recipes like my famous Mexican Rice recipe. This is my mother’s original dish and tastes just like the rice my mom was used to serve to us. In fact my mom loved soybean oil she was always looking for ways to offer meals that were better for us and soybean oil is a good option since it contains 0g trans fats per serving, serves as a principal source of omega‐3s which can help reduce blood pressure and prevent heart disease.
Integrating salads to our menu it is very important for a balanced nutrition, did you know you can prepare salad dressing using soybean oil. I make a Soybean Oil Lime Vinaigrette myself that it is very easy to make and so tasty.
Who doesn’t love chocolate, at home we love chocolate cake and believe it or not I prepare a beautiful recipe for a Mexican Chocolate Cake using soybean oil which allows the cake to be moist and tender to the bite without adding any other flavors.
I feel good to know that soybean oil benefits include that this oil is a good source of vitamin E which prevents cell damage that may lead to diseases such as cancer and heart disease and also contains unsaturated fats and when it replaces saturated fats, it may lower cholesterol levels. All of this is great when pursuing a balanced nutrition and options that are better for me and my family.
The United Soybean Board invites you to check your labels and upload a photo of your oil ingredients label highlighting its soybean oil content for a chance to win $100 gift cards.
