Cooking seasonal veggies is a good way to save on our daily menu and also allows us to include healthy side dishes to the lunch and dinner we prepare for our family. Brussels sprouts are now in peak season and you can find them fresh everywhere. Brussels sprouts are one of those misunderstood and underestimated veggies because of their strong flavor but when cooked correctly you can easily become addicted to them in a good way that is why today I want to share with you how I prepare grilled brussels sprouts and onions and after you taste my recipe I am sure you will become a fan too, so let’s cook!
INGREDIENTS
- 1 pound of fresh brussels sprouts cleaned and cut
- 1/2 pound of peeled boiler onions
- 3 teaspoons of olive oil
- 1 teaspoon of coarse sea salt
- 1 teaspoon of ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon of dried garlic powder
Preparation time: 30 minutes. This recipe for grilled brussels sprouts and onions serves 4-6 guests. Approximate cost per person is less than $1.50 depending on the price of the ingredients at your local supermarket. You will need an electric or gas oven, a cookie sheet or oven tray, a chopping block, a strainer, and a knife.
Start by cleaning the brussels sprouts with running water and cutting the end as well as removing those leaves that don’t look good. Is like cleaning a cabbage though brussels sprouts are small. Clean and peel the onions and place both on a baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt, pepper and garlic. Grill inside the oven using medium flame for 10 minutes or until the veggies and the onions are roasted.
This process is very easy and quick, you can serve the grilled brussels spouts and onions as a side dish, as an appetizer and also add to pasta. You will be surprised how good the taste is and I am sure you family will love them too.
Cheers!
