Last week got the news I got the Mushroom Makeover Ambassadorship! And you know might be wondering what does a Mushroom Makeover ambassador does or is. This program is being sponsored by the Mushroom Council and organized in collaboration with Leah Segedie leader of Mamavation. Fifteen bloggers were selected among many that applied and I was lucky to get selected as one of their official Mushroom Makeover Ambassadors so the next 30 days I will be immersed in a weight loss challenge replacing meat with mushrooms and following an established meal plan and a daily exercise routine to accomplish my goal and get fit.
But now you might be wondering, Adriana’s Best Recipes isn’t a weight loss site, it is focused on recipes and family stories. I decided to participate in this program because it is natural and doesn’t require the intake of medications nor weird milkshake replacement meals. The program incorporates a good balanced diet, exercise routines, and it is supported by a group of experts that will help me on my way to a healthier me. I believe this is what I need right now in order to be happier and live my life to the fullest while I prepare for the years to come.
I have learned that the healthier lifestyle you have the better life you have when you grow older. In my family there are diseases like diabetes and cholesterol as well as leukemia and cancer. Considering my genes and that I lost my mom when she was only 49 years old to leukemia that made me reconsider and put things into perspective. I really want to travel, enjoy with my family, see my grandson grow, play with my dog, take care of my kitties and accomplish all my dreams. Being healthier is what I am sure will help me get there.
Mamavation™ is a online docudrama and weight loss support group for moms in social media supported by experts in nutrition and personal trainers along with a team of coaches that support moms on their path to a healthier self. They are a healthy living community that has helped many women achieve their goals for a healthier life. Mamavation now partnering with the Mushroom Council for this Mushroom Makeover program makes the perfect marriage between experts and an ingredient that is so healthy and versatile.
The Mushroom Makeover challenge consists in swapping out all or part of the meat in four meals per week for mushrooms. Mushrooms are a great ingredient to prepare recipes intended for weight loss, and can be used for meatless dishes or blended with lean meats and fish. By replacing half of the meat with mushrooms in a recipe you add both nutrition and flavor while reducing calories in the dish. Mushrooms are an ingredient that you can easily use in virtually any dish to bring flavor and nutrition to the plate. Here few facts about mushrooms:
- Mushrooms bring important nutrients like vitamin D, potassium, B vitamins and antioxidants without adding significant calories, fat and or cholesterol.
- Research conducted at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health suggests substituting mushrooms for lean ground beef in an entrée just once every week would save almost 20,000 calories or more than 5 pounds of body weight in one year.
- Like all fruits and vegetables, mushrooms are naturally gluten free, and make a delicious and nutritious addition to a gluten-free diet, check the Mushroom Council Pinterest board to get recipe ideas.
