You know I love my sheltie dog Bella, who loves to ride with me in the car and also sit around and watch me cook en la cocina. But when going out safety is my priority.
That is why I want to share with you my best dog travel tips and what I have learned when transporting my dog en el carrito. Because we both have appetite for life and adventure!
We pet owners want our dogs to achieve good quality of life and meet their appetite for life. Traveling and going out is a great way to provide them with quality time and activities that are fun for both of us. Playing with them, having them as part of our life and feeding them the right food is very important too.
I am glad to know that Beneful has a new recipe that features meat as the #1 ingredient and with no added sugar.
That is why I headed over to Target and bought Beneful Originals with Real Beef and quality ingredients. Because Beneful helps fuel our pet’s appetite for life so that we can continue adventuring together.
To feed that hunger for adventure and activities, as pet lovers and owners we love to travel with our loyal companions.
It could be a road trip, or a visit to the vet o la familia, or just a simple car ride to go to the nearest park. When riding with our beloved pets we always have to follow safety measures to avoid any issues or accidents.
So here you have my 7 best dog travel tips:
- If you are taking a long ride or a road trip it is recommended to use a crate to transport your dog. You know we latinos have to travel with all the familia and that includes our perrito. Dogs prefer to be in a place that they recognize as their own and where they feel safe. When choosing a crate buy one that is strong and sturdy. One that could sustain any impact and that has good ventilation. The size of the crate should allow your dog to stand, sit and turn around comfortably. Crate training your pooch is a must if deciding to use a crate for transportation. There are many books that provide easy steps to follow for crate training your dog.
- If not using a crate because you are just taking a small ride, then you will need a safety harness. This will act as a safety belt, since it latches onto the car seat belt.
- Never put your dog in the front seat, or transport your dog in your lap. Use the back seat and a protecting cover if any spill occurs and also to keep your car seat hair free.
- I also like to use a dog travel blanket to keep my Bella comfortable and cozy. Specially during the winter. Car rides should be also comfortable for our pets not only us.
- Pack in your favorite bag all the dog travel essentials, such as Beneful Originals, a bottle of water, a small water bowl, poop bags, and the leash. You can also add paper towels, which I always have in my car. Doggie wipes and a calming collar. I like to pack her favorite bow too, you know Bella is coqueta she’s always in style.
- Bella can get nervous when driving long distances. She also doesn’t like when it rains. As a precaution I place on her a calming collar. This collar has helped her to be calm when flying too.
- Never leave your perrito alone in a parked vehicle. Temperatures on a hot day can be deadly even with open windows. Same situation happens when colder weather. Freezing or very cold temps could harm your dog.
When transporting your dog best advice is to have common sense for a safe and pleasant drive. Hoping you have enjoyed my best dog travel tips and that you learned something new today.
