Hispanic Heritage month celebrations started last September 15th and end on October 15th. For us Latinos it is very important to celebrate our culture and traditions and this commemoration unites all of us who live in the United States. As we use this time to come together, celebrate and recognize our cultural heritage. And what a better way than to do it with some of our favorite NESTLÉ® products. That help us making the cooking of the special party menu a breeze.
We Latinos love family, food and togetherness. And organizing a Hispanic Heritage Month Party it is a great way to celebrate who we are. And an opportunity to share our culture with others. That is why today I want to give you some tips for you to get inspired and celebrate your own Hispanic Heritage Month Party at home.
Colors and textures are a staple of our Hispanic roots. Choosing the right colors, pottery and flowers for your table it is very important to set the tone of the celebration. My heritage is from Mexico, and in my country the color blue and hot pink are prevalent in home decor, the arts, and handcrafts. So I decided to go with that color palette that brings warmth and coziness.
For flowers I am using carnations. My family has a very strong spaniard influence and carnations are very common in Spain. My grandfather was born in Madrid and my grandmother loved carnations. She had them planted in her garden and the aroma of those brings me back home. Besides, you know that all the recipes that I publish here are dedicated to her. As she was a very important influence in my cooking style and my love for food. Adding carnations as the centerpiece of my table is like having her close to me.
In terms of food, I opted for a fusion of flavors, using traditional American dishes with a Mexican twist. Since we are immersed in the American way of living, my family has a fancy for Macaroni and Cheese. So our main dish for the Hispanic Heritage Month party are delectable Macaroni Chiles Rellenos. Made with STOUFFER’S® Family Size Mac and Cheese and other ingredients. Click on the picture above to get the recipe details.
Horchata has been a staple in my home since childhood. My mom was used to make horchata for us using NESTLÉ® LA LECHERA® Sweetened Condensed Milk. I wanted to make my own version and added fresh strawberries. The result was a Strawberry Horchata agua fresca. Perfect beverage to enjoy with a spicy dish. It is sweet and refreshing. And it is pink!
For dessert, another family favorite. Mexican Chocolate Peanut Truffles with Coconut. My mom was used to make chocolate truffles for special occasions and for gifting. I used her recipe as inspiration but adding my own personal touch and using some of my beloved NESTLÉ® products like NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi Sweet Morsels and NESTLÉ® LA LECHERA® Sweetened Condensed Milk. Click on the picture to check the recipe. It is very simple and you can make it with the children, while you teach them about Latino culture.
And to pair the truffles nothing better than a cafecito or cafe de olla with NESTLÉ® COFFEE-MATE® Liquid Coffee Creamer. A meal is not complete if coffee is not served. It is super important for la sobremesa. Time that we use to bond and converse.
NESTLÉ® is a brand that has been present most of my life. Many of their products are included in my family recipes too. And now that I live in the United States, I am happy I can find all the NESTLÉ® products I love, since those are available at my local Walmart.
If you got inspired by my menu and ideas, go ahead and stop by Walmart to purchase your favorite NESTLÉ® products too. And while shopping there take advantage of the ibotta rebate too!
