“Food Safety is a very important topic to keep ourselves and our families healthy and now that we are to be entertaining at home due to the soccer games I want to share with you information about food safety for enjoying game day parties safely. The Food Safety Administration has put together in partnership with The Ad Council, USDA, FDA and CDC a campaign called “Food Safe Families”. The focus of this campaign is to provide awareness about food safety at home as well as important steps consumers can take year round to help keep their families safe from food poisoning.
These are the basics:
- CLEAN – wash your hands before handling food.
- SEPARATE – Use different utensils for cutting raw meats and vegetables.
- COOK – Foods at the right temperature.
- CHILL – Refrigerate foods and keep them fresh.
Food poisoning isn’t just an upset stomach, it is a serious public health threat in America. In fact, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – CDC has estimated that about 1 in 6 Americans (about 48 million people) could suffer from foodborne illness this year.
